Packing Moving Checklist Malta

Start planning your move in Malta early

The part that is most painful is moving all your things from point A to point B. Even if you have few things there are things you need to think about:

  • Get packaging materials
    • You can get cases or boxes from the local supermarket or buy from a store or order online from Amazon
  • Decide on a moving date and plan around it
    • Book days off work if needed
  • Book a van or a furniture mover
    • Always consider your moving options, maybe your car is enough, or you are able to take a taxi or ask for the help of family or friends
  • Start packing, remember to use labels to make unpacking easier
    • Start packing non-essential items and have them boxed up until it is time to have all things moved
  • Go through the process of getting rid of possessions you no longer need
    • Perhaps you have some clothes you didn't wear in the last 12 months, consider dropping them off at Inspire

Important things to arrange before moving

  • Update to your new address
    • Go to Identity Malta located in Evans Building in Valletta and apply for change of address
  • Eat up
    • Start using up food you have in the freezer as food items can easily get spoilt while moving - especially during hot Maltese summer months
  • Arrange utilities
    • Cancel any services you may no longer need
    • If you need a new internet package or TV Channels Subscription make sure to shop around for the best deal:
  • Notify family and friends about your change of address
  • Sort out an insurance for your new home, if you are renting consider a renters' insurance

Getting closer to moving date

  • Update your address with your employer, bank, credit cards etc.
  • Defrost your freezer
  • If you are renting, take detailed photos of each room and area (this is something you should do when moving in to a new place as well)
    • Cover yourself in regards to wear and tear you are concerned might cause issues with your deposit
  • Start packing all your belonging, remember to use labels to make unpacking easier

Time to move

  • Clean the place top to bottom
    • Ideally the place should be in the same condition as when you moved in, if not you may risk losing part of your deposit towards cleaning fees per contract
  • Close all windows and lock all doors
  • Leave contact details of your new place to your old landlord in case you receive any post or packages to your new address
  • Collect keys to your new home
  • Thoroughly go through your new property, take photos and document all rooms for future reference
  • Take meter readings of the new property, take photos
